Prof. Arun Pujari is currently the Vice Chancellor of Central University of Rajasthan. Prior to joining Central University of Rajasthan, he served at University of Hyderabad for 34 yrs as Professor of Computer Science since Feb 1990 – Present and Dean, School of Computer & Information Sciences from Jan 2013 to Oct 2015. He also served at Sambalpur University as Vice Chancellor from Nov 2008 to Nov 2011. Prof. Arun Pujari completed his post-graduation from the Sambalpur University in Mathematics in 1974 and got his PhD from IIT-Kanpur in 1980. He has wide experience as an academician and administrator. He has more than 15 years experience as Dean, Head of Department and Chairman of Grievance and Disciplinary Committee. He has served as a member of high-level bodies such as UGC, DST, DRDO, ISRO and AICTE. Prof. Pujari has more than 100 publications to his credit and has wide exposure in national and international arena. He has attended many international seminars and presented papers. His two books Data Mining Techniques and Database Management System are very popular and recommnded by various universities as text as well as reference books. He has also been associated with University of Tokyo, University of Paris, Griffith University and United Nations University.
He is a Fellow of the British Computer Society, a Chartered Engineer (C.Eng) and Chartered IT Professional (CITP). He has held many leadership roles including as Dean of the School of Computing, Science and Engineering (2001-2019), Head of Computer Science, Associate Dean of Research, and Director of Informatics Research Institute. He was Chair and Vice Chair of British Computer Society (BCS) Accreditations Committee (2007-2010) which has responsibility for accreditation of the UK degrees in Computing. Sunil was Programme Chair of the 5th BCS Symposium on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining in 2009, Chair/Co-Chair of the IFIP Conference on Intelligent Information Processing (2010, 2012,2016,2020)and organised a Workshop on Cost-Sensitive Data Mining as part of the IEEE International Data Mining Conference held in Brussels in 2013. More recently, he is Chair of the International Conference on Information Management and Engineering (2015, 2016 to 2020). His main line of research in recent years has been in the field of cost-sensitive learning, where he has developed novel algorithms and in deep learning, where he is studying methods of reducing the size of the neural networks. His research has been published in some of the leading outlets in the field, including the Computer Journal, ACM Transactions on Knowledge Discovery from Data, ACM Computing Surveys, Journal of the Operational Research Society, Expert Systems Journal, Foundations of Science, and IEEE Transactions of Power Systems.
